We are an academic tutorial program which specializes in offering alternatives to traditional education. Our class sizes are small and often one-to one, which enables us to offer an educational experience designed to empower each student to reach his or her full potential, and to discover the excitement and value of learning. We work primarily with two umbrella school programs, Comenius School and Home Life Academy. These schools are your record keepers and will provide the student's transcript. Under TN law, parents are considered to be the teachers and are expected to stay current with the umbrella school concerning deadlines and important dates throughout the school year. Parents are responsible for entering grades and attendance with the umbrella school at the end of each semester, and we will assist you if assistance is requested. For seniors, the Comenius School also offers a graduation ceremony in May each year. We do offer Honors credit for classes and Standford testing in the spring for all students except seniors. We expect students to be respectful of those around them and to be on time and prepared for classes each day. Cell phones are not permitted in class and students must sign in and sign out each time they enter or leave school. Students can bring their lunches or may go to lunch with a parent's permission. Breaks between classes are a great time to study and do homework; teachers are around to help and answer questions. Friends are not permitted at school without special permission. Our program works best when parents take an active role in their student's education and we encourage regular contact with teachers and administration. Parents should notify the school as soon as possible by email if a student is absent or late. We do understand that students often come to us with personal issues or challenges, and we ask that parents be candid with us regarding these details. All of us at MLBA truly care about each student and find that we can best serve them if we are aware of their individual needs. We offer all traditional classes as well as elective classes such as art and music. Classes can often be tailored to a student's individual interests and we encourage this, especially in elective classes. For students who join us during the school year, we will continue the classes they have been taking while following the graduation requirements for home school students. If a student wishes to move on to a public school in the future, they should be aware that the school may require proficiency tests for subjects completed through our tutorial. We can offer curriculum which will be acceptable to the school district and credited on the transcript. Tuition is due on the 1st of each month. The preferred payment method is to keep a credit or debit card on file so that tuition can be automatically withdrawn each month. We also accept check payments.
